I Just Did It!

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost,
to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

Eleanor Roosevelt, former First Lady of the United States

I went to the edge of the cliff and JUMPED!

When I received the invitation from my adventure-loving girlfriends with their plan to ride the light rail and subsequently take the sky train to the airport for a surprise birthday lunch at Chelsea’s Kitchen, I felt some of the usual dread at having to learn and master a new experience.

Fear of the unknown, fear conjured by imagination, fear that would normally keep me from trying something new. And I also knew that if I thought about it, I probably wouldn't even go and I would miss out on all the fun.

I just jumped into a brand new experience without thinking about it! I learned to use the GPS in the car, found the meeting place, found my friends, and got ready to board the light rail. It looked scary. Even risky. It was new, very different and just too bizarre, but I took the risk and went anyway!

And, guess what? I survived! And, I even LOVED it!!

Is fear stopping you?
Staying in your comfort zone when it's time to soar is never a good idea. The caterpillar would never become the butterfly without the uncomfortable meltdown experience of the cocoon.

A bundle of fear and worry.
I would guess that we all have our small bundle of fears, worries, and hurdles to overcome in order to grow and stretch out of our comfortable and somewhat mediocre existences that stay the same, day after day.

Needed. New experiences.
On the other hand, when new experiences have the possibility of breathing transformative power into our lives, it’s probably a very good idea to just ‘jump off the cliff and build your wings on the way down.’

Really? You’re gifting me three transformative opportunities in a month?
The light rail and sky train weren’t the only recent experiences that pushed me way out of my comfort zone. The third experience was my flight to Kansas City for ArtBra KC, a fun event to raise money for breast cancer survivors who need financial help.

I prefer the comfort of control and closure.
First, you need to know that I absolutely don't like to change planes if I can avoid it. But this time it was out of my control. I could only book flights from Phoenix to Kansas City by going to Salt Lake City, changing planes and continuing on to Kansas City.

Oh, oh, I’m already out of my comfort zone! There are so many things that can go wrong, I thought, especially with the dreaded sequester that was supposedly causing flight delays. And, what if my luggage gets lost?

The challenge of negative thoughts. The magic of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).
Okay, nothing I can do about it. I conquered my worries by using EFT along with the phrase, 'Think good, and it will be good.'

And, it was good! In fact, it was fantastic! I got to see the beautiful mountains of Salt Lake City, an area that I had never been to before, and I arrived in Kansas City without any mishap whatsoever.

The taste of success.
The ArtBra KC event was a huge success. I enjoyed a weekend with my sisters and our daughters. I was very proud of my niece, the co-coordinator of the event, who worked so long and hard to make it a success. I got to see my daughter model the You Light Up My Life art bra and I was so proud. She showed us all that she still remembered how to work the runway.

Three transformative times in just a few short weeks!

I wonder what else I’m getting ready to do?

Blessings,
