Are You a Whole Person?

Putting Humpty Dumpty Together Again

Shattered, like a windowpane
Broken by a stone
Each tiny piece of me lies alone
And scattered, far beyond repair
All my shiny dreams, just lying there
—Lyrics by Jimmy Webb

Picking up the shattered pieces.
We all feel broken sometime in our lives. The circumstances of life can be harsh, cruel beyond measure. They shatter our world, and sometimes even shatter us personally.

A lover breaks up with you for a new and even younger model. A boss fails to give you the respect or recognition that you deserve. Or even worse, the boss has Human Resources tell you that your position in the company is no longer needed.

Maybe a loved one close to you or a friend becomes seriously ill. Maybe someone you love dies. Maybe your doctor diagnoses a chronic illness, and the storms of nature prove to you just how vulnerable you really are.

I hear stories like this everyday and I haven’t even mentioned the national news!

So, how do we find the strength to gather all the shattered pieces back together and go on?

Whole and unshattered.
What is a ‘whole’ person anyway? Do you even know what ‘whole’ feels like, or looks like? How would ‘whole’ show up in your world today? Maybe you haven’t spent much time thinking about this question, but you do know what it feels like to be scared and sad, or confused and lost.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t identify, at one time or another, with the powerful lyrics of Jimmy Webb’s
Shattered as sung by Linda Ronstadt.

Here are some clues as to what ‘wholeness’ really is. True self awareness, the ability to observe yourself authentically, is a powerful skill in becoming ‘whole.’ I suggest that there are four basic ways to intersect with your authentic self.

To simplify, just say out loud or chant the four ‘I AM’ statements that follow and observe what happens with your senses, thoughts, and feelings.

I AM. I am alive.
As you repeat the ‘I am alive’ phrase, can you connect with the wonder of what you are saying? You belong here! You have self-consciousness! You have conscious awareness with both the power of
attention and intention! This proclamation is the very center and power of your wholeness.

I AM. I think.
How do you know that you think? Are all the thoughts in your head thoughts that you, and you alone, decided to think? How many of those thoughts are NOT actually your own? Now that’s something to think about!

I AM. I feel.
Feelings can be the emotions you are feeling right now, or the sensations that you feel throughout your body. And if you have Clair abilities, you may even be picking up the feelings and senses of another person other than yourself. It’s important to know your own feelings and own them.

I AM. I will.
Do you know how important it is to acknowledge your will? What are you willing to do? What are you not willing to do? “I am not willing” is just as important as saying, “Yes, I am willing” to do that. Do you know where you stand with your will?

Now. . .
Go pick up those ‘shattered pieces’ and congratulate yourself for being a whole person.

Blessings,
